Carrie Sizer, RM, BA (Hons), IEMBP

Carrie Sizer is a Registered Midwife and the founder of The Health Nest, where she provides compassionate, personalized care through her independent practice, Vernon Midwifery. With decades of experience supporting families through pregnancy, birth, and postpartum, Carrie blends evidence-based medical care with a deeply holistic, respectful approach.

She believes childbirth is a natural, powerful experience—and her role is to offer support that centers each client’s unique vision, values, and needs.

Education & Background

Carrie earned her BA (Hons) in Midwifery from the University of York in the UK in 1998, after initially training and working as a Registered Nurse in emergency care. She has worked in both hospital and community midwifery settings across the UK and Canada, including water births, home births, and hospital-based deliveries.

In 2016, she relocated to British Columbia and completed the Internationally Educated Midwifery Bridging Program (IEMBP) through the University of British Columbia. She joined Vernon Midwifery under the mentorship of Sylvia Nicholson and became the sole midwife following Sylvia’s retirement.

In 2019, Carrie opened The Health Nest—a multidisciplinary clinic supporting families through all stages of life.

Alongside her midwifery practice, Carrie has also worked as a Health and Social Care Tutor, Nutrition Advisor, and clinic manager in both the UK and Canada. She continues to be active in the local community and is a long-time volunteer with Girl Guides.

Midwifery Care in Vernon

Registered midwives in BC are licensed primary care providers who support healthy pregnancies, births, and postpartum recovery. Their services are fully covered by the Medical Services Plan (MSP) for eligible residents.

Midwives offer prenatal care, attend births at home or in hospital, and provide postpartum care for up to six to eight weeks. Care is evidence-based, client-centered, and available 24/7. Midwives are an established part of the BC health care system and work closely with other health professionals to ensure safe, continuous care.

Carrie offers full-scope midwifery services, including:

  • Prenatal care
  • Hospital birth support
  • Postpartum care
  • Lactation support
  • Education and informed decision-making
  • Holistic care planning tailored to your preferences

Midwifery care with Carrie is covered under the BC Medical Services Plan (MSP). If you are not covered by MSP, private midwifery care is still available.

Postpartum Care in Vernon

Carrie provides midwifery-led postpartum care to support families during the early weeks after birth—a time often referred to as the fourth trimester. Her care is grounded in warmth, clinical expertise, and respect for the physical and emotional changes that follow childbirth.

Postpartum care includes scheduled check-ins at home, in the clinic, or at the hospital, depending on your needs. Carrie offers lactation support, newborn health monitoring, emotional wellness screening, and guidance on recovery, feeding, and infant care. Clients can also access on-call support for urgent concerns during this six-week period.

Postpartum care with Carrie is available to all BC residents with MSP coverage, even if you gave birth with a physician or another provider. If you’re not covered under MSP, private care options are also available.

Space is limited, so families are encouraged to submit a patient intake form early to join the waitlist. Carrie’s care is personalized, flexible, and focused on helping you feel confident, cared for, and supported in the early days with your new baby.

Philosophy of Care

Carrie believes that:

  • Pregnancy and birth are natural, transformative processes
  • Each person deserves care that reflects their values
  • Clients should feel informed, empowered, and supported
  • The relationship between client and care provider is key to safe, positive outcomes

Carrie provides a safe, nurturing, and judgment-free environment where families feel seen, heard, and respected.
